EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS (17-03-2025) – Carbyon and VDL Industrial Modules have joined forces in a close cooperation to develop Carbyon’s first prototype machines that will capture CO2 directly from the atmosphere. Since the start of 2025, engineers from both companies have united as a single team, working together to accelerate the creation of a groundbreaking outdoor demonstrator. This first integrated direct air capture machine, built at a demonstration scale, is planned for completion by mid-2025.

Carbyon has maintained a strong relationship with  VDL Groep since Carbyon’s inception, cooperating on feasibility studies and sharing manufacturing expertise. The partnership has now intensified, with VDL’s engineers joining Carbyon’s team in January. The joint effort focuses on providing engineering expertise for the machine's design and the production of the first demonstrator units.

“For a startup like Carbyon, standing on the shoulders of an industry leader in the Brainport region is invaluable,” amplifies Hans De Neve, CEO of Carbyon. “As we concentrate on advancing our core technology, we are leveraging on the world-class machine development expertise of the Brainport region to bring this ambitious project to life.”

For VDL, this cooperation highlights their growing role in supporting emerging technologies within high-tech and energy, two of VDL's five key growth markets. “Clean technology solutions like Carbyon’s are critical in addressing climate change, and we’re well positioned to contribute through our advanced engineering and manufacturing capabilities,” said Jan Verberkt of VDL Industrial Modules.

Together, Carbyon and VDL Industrial Modules are setting an example of how partnerships can drive innovation and accelerate the development of vital clean technologies.
